We have had many calls over the last few weeks asking when we will be having our Winter Sale.   As many of you will know, it finished on 12th December 2011.

John Crick passed away on 27th September 2011, peacefully at the Hospice of St. Francis, Berkhamsted, aged 75 years.  Much loved by his family and friends including many of us Buckinghamshire beekeepers. An inspiration to many beekeepers in the High Wycome and surrounding areas.  He will be sadly missed.

John’s funeral will be next Monday, 10th October at Amersham Crematorium at 11:00am. Then service of thanksgiving at the Wesley Church, Priory Road, High Wycombe at 12:15.

John was for many years Chairman of Wycombe Beekeepers and President of the County – it was due to ill health that he stood down from that role in 2008; Bob Hunter succeeded him.

ALL-PARTY PARLIAMENTARY GROUP ON SCIENCE & TECHNOLOGY IN AGRICULTURE

I am pleased to invite you to the next meeting of the All-Party Parliamentary Group on Science and Technology in Agriculture on the afternoon of Monday 4 April 2011.

Guest speaker Dr Jeff Pettis, Research Leader at the USDA Bee Research Laboratory, will present the findings of his recently published research into agricultural pesticides and bee health. Amid calls for a ban on certain types of insecticides, Dr Pettis‘ work has been widely reported in the British media and debated by MPs in Parliament. This meeting will offer the chance to hear about his research first-hand, as well as his views on how its conclusions have been received and interpreted in the UK.

Dr Pettis‘ presentation will be followed by question and answer panel session – to include farming, crop protection and beekeeper representatives – on the issues raised by his research and the wider factors impacting bee health in agriculture.

I do hope you will be able to attend what promises to be a thought-provoking and informative session. The meeting will take place from 4.30 – 6.00pm on Monday 4 April in Committee Room 6, Palace of Westminster.
